Venues tightening candle rules lately

Three venues this month (two in Back Bay, one in Seaport) shifted to enclosed-flame-only at the eleventh hour. I swapped taper clusters for lush low runners with mirrored bases and extra bud vases — are you adjusting ambiance with florals, or leaning on pinspots to keep that twilight glow?

I’ve been swapping tapers for cordless mini table lamps plus “enclosed-flame-only” lantern trios, then warming the room with 2700K uplights at about 15% so it reads like candlelight without the 11th‑hour emails. Small caveat: I get the cylinder-height spec in writing (some want glass 2" above the flame) and do a quick dim test during rehearsal — anyone getting pushback on cordless lamps in Seaport?

Warm-dim pinspots have been my fix — ask for about 2000–2200K and a subtle 2–3% random flicker so the florals read candlelit without the fire marshal side-eye, and mix in a few amber/smoked bud vases so your mirrors bounce warmer. If the venue allows the common ‘flame 1 inch below the rim’ hurricane clause, you can reclaim a few ‘candle’ moments — have you had luck with that, @eleanor_r23?

Last-minute ‘enclosed-flame-only’ fix: I stash 7x3 amber or smoke hurricanes and 2-inch floats so the flame sits about 1 inch below the rim — Back Bay FMs have signed off, and the mirrored bases plus low runners read like twilight. If a venue shifts to LED-only, I sleeve the cylinders with a thin amber gel (Lee 204) and drop warm-dim pillars, which keeps the vibe without needing pinspots.
